Independence Community College is seeking an adjunct instructor with DVM credentials for the Veterinary Nursing department beginning Fall semester 2023. The successful candidate will be a team-oriented professional teaching courses listed in the Veterinary Nursing program. The course schedule for online courses for the Fall and semesters includes the following courses:



Fall Semester: August- December



· Small Animal Healthcare (3)



Spring Semester: January-May



· Introduction to Veterinary Nursing (3)



Summer Semester: June-August



· Introduction to Veterinary Nursing (3)



Position Summary



This is an adjunct professor, 9-month position paid $675 per credit hour taught.



The adjunct will instruct during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Instruction during the Spring and Summer semesters would include Introduction to Veterinary Nursing (VET 1003) for 3 credit hours per semester. During the Fall semester the instructor will teach Small Animal Healthcare (VET 1103) for 3 credit hours. Yearly the adjunct will be responsible for 9 credit hours.



While the adjunct will have teaching liberties as to how the online curriculum is taught, certain time requirements must be met to keep in concordance with the Kansas Board of Reagents (KBOR) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Please see table below of real time breakdown of courses:

This position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA).



Qualifications



· Maintenance of DVM license from the State of Kansas and perform annual state continuing education (CE) requirements .



· Ability to instruct students effectively with sensitivity to diverse populations, learning styles and developmental needs.



· Experience working with small, large, and exotic animals, assessing, and addressing the animals? health and condition issues.



· Technical skills considered standard for veterinarians and the ability to teach RVT standards frequently seen in the field.



· Content knowledge in veterinary medicine including commonly used pharmaceutical agents and surgical procedures.



· Community college teaching and experience and alternative course delivery systems preferred.



· Ability to communicate fluently by both verbal and written means with other program faculty/staff, students, and animal owners.



· Valid driver?s license issued in the U.S., with the ability to maintain insurance under the college?s vehicle insurance plan.



· An educational and administrative philosophy in alignment with a small, rural comprehensive community college.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of a Veterinary Nursing instructor. · Position generally requires light work with occasional lifting of up to (50) pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment, and restraining patients. The job requires varying amounts of sitting, standing, climbing and walking.



· This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.



· The ability to clearly communicate verbally with an excellent comprehension of the English language is essential.



· The ability to handle animals of varying sizes and demeanors.



· Work is generally performed in both an indoor (clinical/classroom) and an outdoor (agricultural) setting.
