Overview

We offer a dynamic Staff Counsel Program with strong employee benefits. Selective Insurance seeks an experienced Trial Attorney/Sr. Trial Attorney to handle workers' compensation cases for our New Jersey team. The ideal candidate will work out of the Marlton or Roseland, NJ Staff counsel office two days per week, with the Wayne, PA office also considered.

The attorney, assisted by a talented support staff, will be responsible for defending the case from start to resolution. This position requires exceptional client communication skills, documented trial skills, and the ability to report and respond to the carrier with insight and timeliness. Responsibilities

This role involves independently representing the Insured before the assigned Court and presenting witnesses and evidence on litigated claims. Analyzing complex legal and factual issues, conducting extensive well-reasoned legal research, and developing defense strategies on behalf of the Insured are key responsibilities. Additionally, preparing pleadings, written discovery, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies, as well as preparing for, attending, and handling all activities related to full trials and/or appeals, is essential. Providing effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients and claims professionals on legal and factual issues is also required. Assisting with developing training materials and presenting seminars to the Claim Department is another aspect of this role. Effective communication with the Court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and clients in a manner consistent with established office procedures and the Code of Professional Conduct is crucial. Furthermore, being responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases and traveling to depositions, court appearances, claims, and client meetings, as necessary, are important duties. Staying current with market trends and demands by attending continuing legal education seminars to maintain a high level of professional expertise is also expected.
