Job Description:
The Middle Market Field Underwriter represents the company within a defined territory of agencies, managing and servicing a profitable renewal book of commercial lines business using the highest level of technical underwriting ability. The role conducts territory planning, performance analysis and agency management to maximize production, profit and retention. This role also leads the analysis of new business opportunities from exposure, pricing, service and sales perspectives, drives collaboration meetings with independent agents and coaches less experienced field underwriters while mentoring agencies.
Responsibilities: ? Underwrite and manage a commercial lines book of business for the assigned territory. ? Represent the company, build strong relationships, and manage the book of business to attain profit and revenue objectives. ? Act as the key contact for specified agencies, leading agency business planning and account inventory management. ? Build an account inventory of new business well in advance of expiration dates to achieve profit and revenue objectives. ? Coordinate monthly renewal strategy discussions with the underwriting and services team for individual renewals. ? Discuss new accounts in the pipeline consistently, review opportunities, determine the best approach and establish an underwriting relationship with policyholders. ? Underwrite and collaborate on new and renewal commercial lines accounts, pre-qualify customers and lead the account team to analyze new business opportunities. ? Coordinate collaboration meetings on large, more complex accounts in accordance with company guidelines. ? Evaluate exposures to loss, determine pricing, and accept or reject accounts based on the company's underwriting guidelines. ? Make risk acceptability and pricing decisions throughout the policy life cycle. ? Document underwriting decisions and maintain supporting information in accordance with audit standards. ? Complete the account summary document, record account details, complete and share a post-mortems on accounts that are not acquired to improve sales acumen and competitive intelligence. ? Review, approve or decline underwriting authority referrals from junior field underwriters or managers, and engage in the state planning process, including rate review process and annual projections. ? Serve as the account steward to ensure commitments on accounts are fulfilled and drive standard scheduled periodic communication with policyholders. ? Establish and maintain effective communication regarding underwriting procedures, practices, growth and profit goals, state and territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends, and agency relations. ? Review quality assurance audits, participate in underwriting procedures and submit recommendations to improve department results, including coverage, pricing or competitive issues. ? Travel as needed, including regular utilization of the assigned fleet vehicle to cover the territory, which may involve traveling on short notice or other daily driving duties as assigned.
Requirements: ? 8+ years of property and casualty commercial underwriting experience ? Bachelor's degree in business or related discipline and/or commensurate work experience ? Valid driver's license and a driving record that conforms to company standards
