About This Position

We are looking for a Consultant in Water Security with a background in water engineering, environmental science, or natural resource management.

You will work in the water resources team of the Division, supporting the agendas of Water Security, Ecosystem-Based Adaptation and Nature-Based Solutions, transboundary basins (La Plata Basin, Trifinio Region, among others), integrated basin management, Water-Energy-Food Nexus, and Water Funds. These agendas aim at improving the sustainability of the water management of the region by mainstreaming principles of circular economy in the water sector in the LAC region, promoting efficient use of water resources, strengthening ecosystems and biodiversity, increasing resilience to climate change of vulnerable communities and value chains under a regional integrated perspective, and fostering effective governance by promoting integrated basin management across water users and sectors.

What you?ll do
? Provide technical support to WSA in its operational and analytic activities.
? Assist in the preparation, implementation and management of projects during all the project-cycle, guaranteeing quality and ensuring both technical and financial progress are closely monitored. Coordinate with other IDB?s country offices and departments of the Bank (financial, legal, safeguards, VPC, etc.) as part of a multidisciplinary team, support executing agencies in the execution of projects and related proposals.
? Participate in identification, preparation, and analysis of financing requests for projects (loans and technical assistance).
? Assist in the organization of supervision missions and participate in Bank-led missions for project design and implementation
? Build and sustain strong relationships with executing and implementing agencies, authorities, donors, public and private entities and other stakeholders, in client countries, offering advice and providing guidance on Bank?s policies and procedures.
? Participate in the identification, preparation, and assessment of sector studies, guidelines/technical notes, blogs, tools, and sector and bank strategies addressing engineering and environmental aspects.
? Provide technical assistance with regards documents on water security and climate action in the WSA portfolio, including adaptation and mitigation as well as natural capital and biodiversity.
? Collaboration in technical notes, progress reports, presentations and technical cooperations.
? Support the coordination with donors and regional and global strategic partnerships, including preparation of seminars, workshops and events as needed, and engage in sectorial, regional, and global events.

What you'll need
? Education: Master?s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in engineer, natural resource management; environmental sciences; economics, geosciences or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
? Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in area of water management, climate change adaptation and sustainability within the IDB, other IFIs or similar development institution.
? Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
? Key Skill: Familiar with water modelling tools, and the concepts of water security, food water land nexus, integrated basin management, circular economy in water

? Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
