We are actively hiring for a Vice President, IT Core Insurance Solutions and systems!
Your Role: As a member of the IT Core Insurance Solutions and Systems leadership team, this role provides strategic and transformational leadership for Claims, Enterprise and Commercial Lines Solution Delivery technology, leading the Architecture, Software Engineering, QA Engineering, Product Management, and Application Modernization functions responsible for building and executing our next generation of insurance products and applications in the Commercial Lines division.
As the Engineering leader, this role will drive our "Digital First" strategy, working closely with Insurance Product, Marketing, and Commercial Operations across Commercial Lines in partnership with peer IT organizations (CTO, Data, DevSecOps, Commercial, etc.) to create a simplified ecosystem of technology that accelerates time to market to drive profitable growth, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiencies. The Executive will support re-imagining customer engagement opportunities while integrating with all Commercial Lines Value Streams and other platform, data, and technology teams throughout the organization. This leader is accountable for the environment's security and enables ongoing success through the quality and velocity of technology under their leadership.
As the leader for all commercial lines value stream software engineering, this role will build and evolve a strong engineering talent base, including a solid career pathing, skills development, and a strategic mix of employee/contractor and on-shore/off-shore talent. This role will also ensure the adoption of leading engineering practices in agile development, modern technology frameworks, testing, security, and DevSecOps within the personal lines value streams.
Your work:
Commercial and Enterprise capabilities:
? Lead the Digital First technology strategy for our Claims, Commercial, and Enterprise Solution Delivery Organization
? Lead a lean team of architects and ensure a simplified technical architecture
? Evangelize the vision and strategy to enterprise leaders to help inform enterprise platform goals and priorities
? Present research, vision, and product status to executive management
? Develop a point of view, through research and development, on how to build efficient and industry-leading digital product offerings
? Define/analyze metrics and feedback from usability studies that inform the success of our products.
? Drive and prioritize initiatives that drive the most value to the organization at the lowest risk
Commercial and Enterprise Engineering supporting core insurance systems development:
? Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve business performance.
? Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market.
? Lead the Engineering roadmap definition, prioritization, product backlog, and drive product development from concept to launch
? Partner closely with Value Stream leaders to ensure consistent delivery and quality of initiatives, enhancements, and features
? Conduct analysis to measure the results of feature deployments to and drive measurable
? increases in delivery efficiency and productivity year-over-year.
? Able to manage multiple, concurrent projects in various phases of ideation, execution, or delivery
? Work with the stakeholders to drive timely execution of product development
? Partner with DevSecOps leadership to drive the right strategic decisions and investments in engineering tools and technologies, propose financial investment strategies for product roadmaps and manage financial spend against projects
? Provide technical leadership and direction for the engineering organization
? Hire, manage, and grow a team of architects, software engineers, quality assurance engineers, and product manager professionals
? Maintain technology knowledge to enhance the technical design, development, and standards of our software platforms
? Partner with senior leadership to identify new technologies and techniques that can improve our overall platform performance
? Drive consistency, reliability, supportability, and observability across our applications and platforms
? Establish and maintain an effective program for on-going education and training within the engineering organization
? Proactively monitor relevant technology trends and participate in appropriate industry events and forums to enable ability to define the optimal future architecture and technologies for the organization
? Serve as a strong communicator of Engineering goals, priorities, and execution for the company's management and staff that inspires high levels of performance and accountability
? Manage third-party providers to build strategic relationships to ensure on-time delivery, reliability, and optimal economics
? Set clear expectations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities for individuals; Provide one-on-one coaching to leadership to help resolve problems and strengthen their leadership skills
? Lead and motivate cross-functional teams and drive for strong collaboration across multiple functions and partners; Build a learning culture by encouraging operational leaders to develop top talent by providing on the job training and support
Continuous Improvement in Engineering
? Responsible for ensuring that design requirements are met. Develops standards and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and consistent.
? Manage the Software Engineering organization (Architecture, Software Engineering) for Claims, Commercial, and Enterprise
? Fostering a culture of innovation through utilization of DevOps, Agile, Release Management, Operations, and Automation
? Leading technology integration and simplification initiatives on an ongoing basis
? Hire and launch new engineering teams.
? Mentor and coach engineering managers, team leads, and engineering staff.
? Collaborate with tech leadership (DevOps, CTO, Data,) on organizational strategies.
? Foster growth and professional development
? Identify opportunities to innovate, improve processes, and drive solutions. Initiate and develop creative and innovative engineering processes.
? Take ownership of the software development and QA policy, guidelines, and any associated documents as appropriate.
? Drives metrics around engineering, quality and velocity.
? Identifies methods, metrics, approaches, processes, and innovation that will lead to increased capacity; "do more with less"
? Facilitate improvements and innovation in solution architecture reviews, design reviews, code reviews
? Own and standardize engineering estimates.
? Provide leadership to departments under control and coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions.
? Input and hold responsibility for engineering budgets.
? Prepare the annual Engineering budget and forecasts. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects.
Required Experience, Education and Skills
? Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
? 10 years leading Engineers/Engineering
? 5 years experience leading engineering at a Director level or above
? 5 years leading QA engineering and test automation
? Experience working with a platform engineering team
? Experience with secure coding plus implementations of DAST, SAST and IAST
? Experience with database design, optimization, and archiving approaches
? Experience with building configurable and extendible internal solutions that allow us to move fast with our own internal low code/no code platforms
? Experience in SAFe organizations and with Value Streams
? Experience with SaaS solutions
? Experience with multiple PAS systems including GW and/or EIS.
? Exhibit exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
? Effective and positive workplace culture and organizational leadership skills
? Proven success in building, growing, and driving teams of engineering directors, engineering managers, and developers to build quality software and deliver on strategic goals
? Extensive experience in working with stakeholders to create hiring strategies to develop quality teams.
? Previous working experience in software design and developing customer application and platforms
? Deep knowledge of data structures and algorithms
? Track record of delivering scalable and highly-available systems using Agile methods and a DevOps model
? Demonstrated leadership experience in the product development process
? Problem solving skills with proven ability to incorporate process improvement tools
? Ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment
? Consultative approach to building consensus
? Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration expertise
? Must possess deep technical skills to identify improvements in Engineering people, process and tools
