GIS Technician*

Employee will be primarily responsible for assisting in the maintenance and development of Geographic Information System (GIS) databases, metadata, applications, maps, printing and scanning, reports, queries, etc. to support the GIS Division and other Departments as needed. Principal functions include update/maintain GIS layers; produce professional quality maps, map books, and reports; collect and import data using GPS hardware; convert data to and from multiple formats; scan hard copy maps and drawings; convert data from external databases for use in GIS; prepare technical guides; special projects as assigned by the GIS Manager. Hours: Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Bachelor?s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field; AND two years of technical experience in computers; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to become proficient in the use of ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo). Ability to gain basic understanding of databases, associated computer programs and the basic concepts of computers. Ability to read and understand technical materials. Proven ability to plan, organize and manage multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision. Willingness to work in a team environment and learn new skills to help improve an already mature GIS. Must be able to bend or stoop to retrieve and lift books, files or other materials weighing 10-15 lbs. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. A valid driver?s license with a good driving record is required.
