Job Summary:
The Assistant Communications and Public Affairs Officer supports the Communications and Public Affairs Director in developing and executing communication strategies to engage the public and promote the initiatives of Brazoria County. This position plays a key role in managing media relations, public inquiries, and the creation of communication materials for various platforms.
Key Responsibilities: ? Assist in the development and implementation of strategic communication plans to enhance public awareness and understanding of county policies, programs and initiatives. ? Draft and edit press releases, speeches, newsletters, and social media content to ensure consistent messaging across all channels. ? Assist with the design, production, and management of the county?s website and intranet websites, ensuring they are accessible, informative, and up to date. ? Manage daily media inquiries and build relationships with journalists and media outlets to facilitate accurate and effective coverage of county activity. ? Coordinate with different departments to gather accurate information for public dissemination. ? Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies and suggest improvements based on feedback and analytics. ? Assist in organizing public events, including press conferences, public meetings, and engagement initiatives. ? Maintain the county?s public relations materials, including media kits, promotional materials, and official statements. ? Provide support during crisis communications, helping to manage timely and transparent responses to the public and media. ? Represent the Communications and Public Affairs Director at meetings and events as needed. ? Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in communication, public relations, and digital media. ? Bachelor?s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. ? Minimum of two years of experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role, preferably in governmental or public sector setting. ? Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to craft clear and persuasive messages. ? Experience managing social media platforms and digital content. ? Ability to use cameras and basic photography skills. ? Proficiency in using computer programs/software for designing and producing publications and photos, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc. ? Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. ? Knowledge of media operations and landscape. ? Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements: ? Ability to attend meetings and events outside of normal working hours. ? May require travel within the county. ? Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 lbs. #J-18808-Ljbffr
