About the position

The FBI is seeking individuals with a STEM background to join as Special Agents. This role is critical in applying professional expertise and unique skill sets to various investigations and operations. Special Agents come from diverse professional backgrounds, particularly in STEM fields, as technology plays a vital role in the Bureau's work. Candidates can expect to engage in complex cases that require logical thinking and expertise in areas such as network security, computer science, software engineering, and mathematical formulation. Once onboard, agents will receive continued specialized training, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the unique challenges presented by the Bureau's investigations, which are often more intricate than those found in the private sector. The position requires adherence to strict standards of conduct and the successful completion of a rigorous background investigation, credit checks, and a polygraph examination to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance. Candidates must also meet physical fitness requirements, pass a medical exam, and complete approximately 18 weeks of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. After graduation, agents may be assigned to one of the FBI's 56 Field Offices or remote resident agencies, with the understanding that they may need to relocate and be available for temporary duty assignments worldwide. The role demands a commitment to a minimum of a 50-hour workweek, including irregular hours, and being on-call 24/7, which may include working on holidays and weekends. Additionally, candidates must successfully complete the Special Agent Selection System (SASS), a challenging process designed to identify the most capable applicants.
