The Edmond Fire Department seeks individuals with high integrity, honesty, compassion, and moral character. The Firefighter Recruit participates in emergency and non-emergency response, training, public education, prevention activities, and maintenance for facilities, apparatus, and equipment. They shall serve internal and external customers with the highest of core character qualities including integrity, trustworthiness, professionalism, dedication, and ethics. Edmond Fire Department works a Modified Kelly System. Working within one of three 24-hour shifts (red, green, or blue). In a five-day tour of duty, you should expect to work three (3) days with a day off between each day. At the end of the five (5) days, you have four (4) days off.
Responsibilities
? Inspect, maintain, and clean all assigned apparatus, equipment, and facilities (including but not limited to various fire apparatus, SCBA, bunker gear, small engines, hand tools, medical equipment, fire stations, storage buildings/areas, and grounds)

? Perform minor maintenance and/or repairs on the apparatus and equipment
,
? Record and report any apparatus and/or equipment maintenance or repairs
,
? Provide both emergency and non-emergency response to various fire, medical, and rescue-type incidents (including but not limited to laying/connecting hose lines, directing water/fog streams, utilizing ladders, ventilating, search and rescue, CPR, patient assessment, treatment of medical or trauma patients, extrication, high/low angle rescue, water rescue, and various hazmat incidents)

? Perform and train for public education and fire prevention activities (including but not limited to fire drills, target hazard surveys, apparatus demonstrations, station tours, smoke alarm installation and recognition, and preservation of evidence of fire cause and/or possible arson)

? As assigned, safely drive crew members and equipment to the scene of emergencies and non-emergencies in assigned apparatus while possibly driving under adverse conditions
,
? As assigned, safely drive crew members in assigned apparatus to run errands or other duties as assigned by their immediate supervisor or acting supervisor
,
? Perform record keeping and completion of computer forms for daily truck checks when assigned
,
? Train for response to various emergency and non-emergency incidents, including fire, medical, and rescue situations (including but not limited to classroom, self-study, hands-on, mock drills, written, and practical testing)
Requirements
? Must successfully complete the Edmond Fire Department Recruit Academy within a time frame determined by the Fire Chief or his designee

? Must obtain IFSAC Firefighter I and II certification within first year of employment
,
? Must possess or obtain a minimum certification of a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) within 18 months of hire

? Must maintain EMT National Registry Certification throughout employment
,
? Must maintain the Department of Transportation Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Certification (or equivalent) as provided by the City
,
? Must pass a pulmonary function test and quantitative fit test once every year, and be medically cleared by a Physician or Licensed Health Care Professional (PLHCP) to wear a respirator
