Job Description And Duties

The California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) consults with employers to develop a skilled workforce with viable career pathways to increase productivity and strengthen our economy. DAS is creating 21st Century solutions that establish innovative apprenticeship programs to provide the State?s industries with the workers they need to compete and prosper, while delivering excellent training experiences and high-paying career opportunities for California?s workers.

Under the direction of the DAS Chief and the Deputy Chief of the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, the Staff Services Manager III will be the Leader of the Apprenticeship & Workforce Innovation (AWI) Team, a team focused on expanding apprenticeships in CA across all sectors except the building and fire trades. Duties will include but are not limited to strategizing statewide on apprenticeship expansion, identifying and participating in events to promote apprenticeship, managing the statewide Branch Chiefs on both Partnerships and Program Management and providing thought leadership on expanding apprenticeship into areas such as healthcare, technology, civil service, business services among other sectors. This role includes:
? Managing the Partnership and Program Management teams within AWI to both review and approve new apprenticeship programs and to scale up the number of apprentices and employers served with existing approved programs.
? With the Partnerships team, instituting and leading strategic outreach efforts to expand apprenticeship programs into non-traditional industries.
? With Program Management, overseeing the creation, review, processing and maintenance of new and revised program standards.
? Leading the AWI team to create a collaborative team environment that is oriented towards achieving the goals around apprenticeship expansion.
? Developing partnerships across government, education, employers and the workforce ecosystem to advance apprenticeship expansion and adoption.
? Measuring and maintaining metrics on apprenticeship expansion
? Participating in the DAS Leadership Team monthly meetings, prepared to report back on progress and issues that emerge from the AWI team.
? Supporting with the implementation and shaping the agenda for the Interagency Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (IACA).
? Monitoring the hiring needs of AWI, recruiting, interviewing, and hiring staff or vacancies within the AWI team.

The incumbent is expected to communicate effectively with team members and program leaders and to foster a culture that supports the mission and vision of the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS). Provide outstanding customer service to stakeholders.

Working Conditions

There is only one position that may be filled in either Oakland, Sacramento or San Bernardino. If you are interested in the position at more than one location, please submit a separate application for each job control.

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting. Air-conditioned, high-rise building with elevator access, cubicle with natural and artificial lighting. Being in a stationary position for long periods of time. May work from home if provided with proper office equipment; and other locations throughout California.

Special Requirements
