Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, the Dean of Students will work with the VP in developing and directing strategic initiatives to optimize enrollment through effective retention efforts. Working with the VP, the Dean develops a comprehensive plan for retention management and academic advisement. The incumbent advocates for the needs of the students and provides leadership to enhance a student culture that is inclusive, promotes civility, celebrates diversity, and enriches the student experience and engagement.

Specific Responsibilities
? Provides leadership and oversight of the Student Services Department.
? Provides leadership and oversight of six academic advisors, one Director and one social worker. These Coordinator level professionals focus on: students with disabilities; students on SAP; students with food insecurity, international students; first year students; Veteran students; student life and student health and wellness.
? Provides a vision for the development of programs that enhance the student experience and engagement.
? Provides leadership and develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures pertaining to the student experience and student conduct.
? Manages and mediates student complaints and issues.
? Participates in strategic planning initiatives, facilitating the use of assessment findings for continuous improvement.
? Collaborates with faculty and other departments to develop joint programs that support retention.
? Serves as chair of the Safety Committee.
? Oversees the successful execution of Orientation and Commencement.
? Manages compliance with COVID-19 related matters that affect students, including but not limited to: contract tracing, communication, exemption requests.
? Serves on the commencement committee to ensure a smooth ceremony annually.
? Serves as Title IX Officer and manages all programs related to sexual harassment/abuse/assault prevention, which includes oversight of student training, climate surveys, Clery Act compliance and 129 B compliance.
? Oversee two Food Pantries (Bronx and Manhattan).
? Collaborate on the execution of grant funded programs.
? Prepares and manages the department budget.

Qualifications
? Minimum of a Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) with five years of related experience.
? Demonstrated experience in working with urban, adult students, and developing programs that support their success; ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to design effective programs and initiatives to enhance the student experience.
? Strong conflict management, mediation, group facilitation, and presentation skills.
? Experience working in the areas of student conduct and discipline.
? Knowledge of applicable laws and policies related to student affairs.
? Experience working with Title IX issues.
? Excellent leadership and managerial skills and the capacity to supervise and lead a student affairs staff.
? Experience in creating and/or monitoring a Higher Education strategic planning process and having a sophisticated understanding of how to gather, analyze, and use data to develop and assess programs.
? Demonstrated experience and understanding of college student academic and co-curricular factors leading to student success, as well as the range of student life issues and concerns.
? Demonstrated sensitivity, creativity, and effectiveness in responding to challenging student and college community issues.
? Ability to lead and manage a diverse team.
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated record of developing excellent interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators of the college.
? Computer proficiency using standard office software programs/applications.
