As a Surgical Technologist, you will be an integral part of the surgical team, providing patient care and taking on essential tasks before, during, and after surgery. You will manage the instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the procedure. At Monument Health, you will be knowledgeable about the surgery being performed and anticipate the surgeon's needs. You will have the expertise to ensure high-quality patient care throughout the operation while maintaining a sterile field at all times.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
? Performs interventions, skills, and procedures in accordance with established surgical standards, policies, and protocols within the operating room. These tasks include, but are not limited to: preparing the Operating Room with the necessary supplies and equipment based on the patient's condition; ensuring patient safety and comfort; handling proper patient transfer and positioning; maintaining aseptic technique and sterile fields; monitoring patient well-being, including fluid balance and skin integrity; demonstrating proficiency with equipment and supplies; researching unfamiliar procedures, techniques, and medications; showcasing organizational skills by optimizing time, equipment, and personnel; following correct sterilization procedures; minimizing downtime between cases; and using physician preference cards effectively.
? Handles unanticipated events and crisis situations in a professional manner. Is alert to potential problems and notifies appropriate individuals as necessary.
? Performs the technical procedures necessary for job responsibilities in a safe, effective, efficient, legal and professional manner. Is responsible for own education, personal growth and development. Takes timely action & appropriately plans for cases with consideration of individual needs.
? Effectively manages organizational resources, including supplies, equipment, time, and property. Oversees the operating room and supplies to ensure only necessary items are used for each case, while actively questioning and minimizing waste.
? Establishes, maintains, and monitors the surgical environment to ensure that the potential for infection is reduced by proper sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection procedures.
? Willing to assist in other roles to keep costs down and quality high.
? Consistently performs appropriate counts per OR policy as evidenced by observation/chart review.
? Support the Institution by operating in an efficient and cost-effective manner while projecting a positive image to the community.
? Contributes to process improvement by identifying areas of concern and taking proactive steps to address them, ensuring appropriate interventions are implemented.
? The Surgical Technologist ensures that all required elements are in place for efficient completion of any and all procedures.
? All other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
Required:
Rapid City & Spearfish Markets:
Education - Associate in a Healthcare related field OR the following certification
Certification - Within 12-months of hire Surgical Technician Certificate from an accredited program
Rapid City Market CV Team:
Education - Associate in a Healthcare related field OR the following certification
Certification - Within 12-months of hire Surgical Technician Certificate from an accredited program
Work Experience - 2+ years cardiovascular experience
Monument Health Orthopedic Specialty Hospital:
Education:
High School Diploma/GED Equivalent AND completion of a Registered Surgical Apprenticeship Program
Certification:
Surgical Tech Certified (ST-C) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or Surgical Technician Certificate from an accredited program within 12 months of hire
Preferred
Work Experience - 1+ years of Surgical Technologist Experience; 1+ years of Healthcare Experience
Certification - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Association of Surgical Technologies (AST); or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Nation Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Physical Requirements:
Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
