Job Description:

Position Available: Trades Generalist, SG-12, Line # 05618

Location: SUNY Old Westbury - Facilities/Maintenance

Salary: $48,956.00 - $59,757.00 plus $3,400.00 location pay

Shift: Wednesday - Sunday, 9:00am - 5:30pm. Different hours may be required from time to time to meet the operating needs of the College.

Status: Permanent, Full-time

Duties:

As per Civil Service Standards, a Trades Generalist performs journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semi-skilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Incumbents may supervise others in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities and may work with individuals whose positions are classified according to specific trades. Duties include but not limited to the following as below:
? Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and installation tasks in locksmithing trade. May also be required to work on one or more of the mechanical (HVAC), carpentry, painting, electrical, and masonry trades.
? Performs periodical maintenance tasks to assist other skilled tradespersons on the maintenance team.
? Follows written and verbal instructions, project plans, and schedules with considerable independence.
? Communicates orally with administrators and others in a state facility on the reasons why work is being accomplished in the manner selected.
? Provide supervision to the maintenance staff by oral communication in assigning work, providing instructions, observing and inspecting work performed to ensure that instructions have been followed and that the quality of the work is satisfactory.
? Perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
? May climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms, and in confined spaces.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate a motor vehicle, applicant must possess and keep a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. The applicant must have and keep a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
